The Ice Ball Competition Information
This information has been created to regulate the smooth running of The Ice Ball Competition.
COMPETITORS: The following couples can take part in the competition: Students/ Partnered by and Open Amateur couples.
DANCE STYLES in the competition:
1. Student / Partner
International Ballroom (Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep)
International Latin (Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive)
American Smooth (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz)
American Rhythm (Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, Mambo)
Argentinian Tango Salon (Tango, Tango Vals, Milonga)
Argentinian Tango Freestyle (Tango, Tango Vals, Milonga)
Carribean Mix (Bachata, Salsa, Merengue, ChaCha)
Show Dance (any competitive style)
2. Amateur
Open Amateur Ballroom (5 Dance)
Open Amateur Latin (5 Dance)
3. Professional
Professional Show Dance (any competitive style)
DANCE TIMES: In all dance styles the music will be played between 1.10min and 1.45min. Viennese Waltz between 1.00min and 1.20min, and Paso Doble at least to the second highlight. If there is only 1 couple on the dance floor it will be 1min.
DANCE CATEGORIES: The following categories are included in the competition: Single Dances, 3-Dance Scholarship, 4-Dance Scholarship, 5-Dance Ice Ball International Dance Awards (4-Dance in the American Smooth style), Ice Ball International ShowDance Awards (invitational – Contact the Organisers), Open Amateur Ballroom and Open Amateur Latin.
The SINGLE DANCES will be danced in 3 levels: Open Level 1 (equals Bronze), Open Level 2 (equals Silver) and Open Level 3 (equals Gold). There are no dance figure restrictions. Students cannot dance in more than two consecutive levels ( Level 1, Level 1 & 2, Level 2, Level 2 & 3, Level 3). The Single Dances have the following 6 age categories:
A0 – under 30
A1 – 31-40
A2 – 41-50
B1- 51-60
B2 – 61-70
C – 71+
Two age categories can be selected (students age group and one below).
The 3-DANCE and 4-DANCE SCHOLARSHIPS have no levels and will be danced in the following 5 age categories:
A0 – under 30
A1 – 31-40
A2 – 41-50
B1- 51-60
B2 – 61-70
C – 71+
Two age categories can be selected (students age group and one below).
To be eligible to dance in the 3-Dance Scholarship the student needs to enter the same 3 Single Dances in the same style.
To be eligible to dance in the 4-Dance Scholarship the student needs to enter the same 4 Single Dances in the same style.
The 5-DANCE ICE BALL INTERNATIONAL DANCE AWARDS (4-Dance in American Smooth) have no levels and will be danced in the evening session of The Ice Ball Competition in the following 5 age categories:
A0 – under 30
A1 – 31-40
A2 – 41-50
B1- 51-60
B2 – 61-70
C – 71+
Two age categories can be selected (students age group and one below).
To be eligible to dance in The Ice Ball International Dance Awards the student needs to enter the same 5 Single Dances and at least one of the Scholarships (3-Dance and/or 4-Dance) in the same style.
ICE BALL INTERNATIONAL SHOW DANCE AWARDS
We accept Student/Partner – Entries, Student – Solo’s or Group – Entries (up to max. 12 members) in any competitive dance style. The show music should be minimum 2 minutes and maximum 2.45 minutes (including walk on & exit). No props.
To be eligible to dance in the Ice Ball International ShowDance Awards the student does not need to enter any other category in The Ice Ball Competition. Please contact the Organisers for further information on Entries as this event is restricted on numbers.
A ShowDance can also be entered as ‘unjudged’, simply be performed without being marked.
PROFESSIONAL ICE BALL INTERNATIONAL SHOW DANCE AWARDS
We accept Entries for registered Professional couples or Solos in any competitive dance style. The show music should be maximum 4min (including walk on & exit). No props.
Please contact the Organisers if you have any queries regarding your Entry; this event is restricted on numbers which can be accepted.
COMPETITION RESULTS will be available on The Ice Ball Competition website not later than 7 working days after the competition. All printed results can be acquired only after the end of the competition and once they are confirmed by the Chairman of the Adjudicators.
GENERAL RULES OF CONDUCT: All participants, competitors and spectators alike, must purchase an Admission ticket to the ballroom for the day and /or evening session. All competitors must be in the ballroom at least 30 minutes before their heat start time, which are provided in the Heat List. The organisers do not have to stop the competition if a competitor is not on the dance floor for their heat. If a competitor has missed their heat, no money will be returned.
The organisers are not responsible and cannot be held liable for any personal belongings left in the ballroom, the changing rooms or any other competition premises. The event organisers are not liable and not responsible for any health problems or injuries during the event; this is solely risk of the participants. A qualified First Aider will be appointed for the event.
Special attention: It is forbidden to pour oil, water or any other fluids on to the carpets/flooring within the venue, The Chelsea Old Town Hall. The use of any tanning products including sprays, creams, lotions is also banned. If you are caught using these prohibited items on the premises you risk being warned and ultimately fined £50 each time, which could lead to being disqualified from the competition.
Competitors are counted as ‘entered’ for the competition only when the required entry and registration form has been submitted in the specified time period (before the closing date) and all the required payments (including admission ticket for the appropriate day and/or evening session) have been made. No refunds will be provided to competitors if they are not present for their heats (haven’t arrived).
The organisers have the right to refuse entry/registration without explanation for any person or couple. When registering to the event, competitors are obliged to provide accurate and complete data (name, phone number, e-mail address, an address). Return of tickets purchased is possible ONLY in the case of the event’s cancellation. If you are unable to attend The Ice Ball Competition, no refunds will be given. The Organisers reserve the right in its sole and absolute discretion. Information on the event’s cancellation is communicated to the e-mail address provided in the registration.
The organisers reserve the right to cancel the event for a valid reason. In the event of cancellation, the organisers shall not be held liable for any costs incurred by the participants (competitors and spectators alike) other than the price of the online tickets.
The organisers reserve the right to change The Ice Ball Competition Rules for a valid reason. In the event of a change, this will be communicated to the e-mail address provided in the registration. The amendment of the rules has no effect on the registration process and tickets purchased prior to it.
PRIZE PRESENTATION: After the conclusion of the Single Dances and the 3-Dance and 4-Dance Scholarships, all competitors/finalists will receive their diplomas or medals at their prize presentation. The organisers have the right to award the competitors with extra prizes provided by the competition sponsors and supporters.
After the conclusion of The Ice Ball International Dance Awards and the Open Amateur Ballroom and Latin events, all finalists will receive their medals or trophies at the prize presentation. The organisers have the right to award the competitors with extra prizes provided by the competition sponsors and supporters.
If competitors do not abide the rules set in this document, they will receive a warning or consequently be disqualified from the event.
Only ADJUDICATORS with an International License will be judging the event. During the competition it is prohibited for competitors to talk or interact with members of the panel of adjudicators. It is also prohibited for adjudicators to discuss competitors between themselves while the competition is ongoing. Adjudicators cannot comment on their marks and competitors must take marks as final and they are not under any discussion.
The Ice Ball Competition Information shall be available from the opening of entries and ticket sales.
By attending The Ice Ball Competition event all participants agree to be recorded for the official event video and event photos.
DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: Competitors who register early will receive the best Early Bird Entry prices. This will be valid until and including Friday, 18th October 2024. Regular Entry prices from then onwards, until the final Closing Date which will be the 20th November 2024.
